in Coupon Class

Welcome to lesson seven of my FREE 9 lesson online coupon class. Please ask questions and leave comments so that we can all learn from each other.

This week we will take a look at other stores where you can find great deals. Before I couponed seriously, I never thought about Target as a place to get groceries and health and beauty products for FREE or close to FREE. Boy was I missing out!

Assignment #1Visit one of the stores below this week and report back on any deal that you were able to get.

Target

  • Target’s ad runs Sunday through Saturday.
  • $0.05 will be deducted from your total when you bring your own bag.
  • You can combine a Target coupon with a manufacturer coupon.
  • Target does not accept competitor’s coupons.
  • When the amount of the coupon exceeds the price of the item, the amount of the coupon will be reduced to the value of the item.
  • Go here to read Target’s coupon policy.
  • Target has coupons (both store and manufacturer) on it’s website that you can print.
  • Target releases mobile coupons (they are store coupons) that you can then scan at the register (on your phone) to receive the discount.
  • Target will price match with a competitor’s ad. Target coupons are applied before the price match is made. Manufacturer coupons are applied after the price match is made.
  • Go here to read this week’s Target match-ups.

Walmart

  • Go here to read Walmart’s coupon policy.
  • Walmart will price match with a competitor’s ad.
  • Coupons may exceed the price of an item. Overage will be applied to other items in your order.

Dollar General

  • You can combine a Dollar General coupon with a manufacturer coupon.
  • Often Dollar General releases a $5.00 off a $25.00 purchase coupon (usually good for one day only).
  • Go here to read Dollar General’s coupon policy.
  • Go here to read this week’s Dollar General match-ups.

Assignment #2Request some FREE samples this week.

Have you requested FREE samples before? Not only are they a great way to try a new product for FREE they often come with coupons. Recently I received a FREE sample of Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion and it came with a $1.00 off coupon. I encourage you to send off for FREE samples so that you can build your coupon stash beyond the Sunday coupon insert and printable coupons. Keep an eye on the blog this week for FREE sample opportunities.

Assignment #3Try and find a rebate!

Manufacturer rebates are a great way to get products for FREE or even a profit. In 2010, I received $793.76 in cash back by rebate. Many of the rebates received were higher than I what actually paid for the item.

Rebate Tips:

  • I save all my receipts in a photo box (shoe box size) just in case I run across a rebate for an item I have already purchased.
  • If you are buying more than one item in one transaction for different rebates, you need to do separate transactions. Almost all rebates require original receipts.
  • Photocopy all your documents before you mail your rebate – just in case there is a dispute (never happened to me but you never know).
  • Check out my post about beer rebates! You will be very happy you did if you live in one of the lucky 14 states.

I so wish we had a Target close. They are building us a new Kroger in town (about 5 min. from my house). It will be largest in Georgia we are told. I keep hoping a Target would go in the same place. That would be awesome. I hope to go to Dollar General this week. There is a coupon good for 50% off home decor. http://www.dollargeneral.com/coupons/Pages/index.aspx.
I request free samples and receive all the time. I ususally do the All You freebie of the day. I have done rebates too. I just got back $10.00 on a Sunbeam hand mixer I had bought at Belks late last year….making my out of pocket $9.99 for the mixer.

Just went to Target today and used my 2 $5.00 coupons for Maalox. I don’t typically use this product, but for free I’ll try anything :) Also, will be going to Staples tomorrow to get some rebate items. Thanks for the coupon on the address labels, that’s the only thing I really wanted, but will probably get the rest of them too like usual.

Thanks again for doing these classes, can’t believe we’re already on week 7. Time flies when you’re having fun.

I believe VA has been added to the list of states because I just submitted a beer rebate this past week and VA was listed on the bottom as one of the states. I haven’t had to make a beer purchase for at least the last six months when I submit a Beer Rebate. This is a GREAT Thing.

I also agree with Shelly that I really look forward to each week and cannot believe that we are on Week 7. Does it have to end at Week 9?????

I went to Target last night and stocked up my freezer. My store was pretty cleared out of most freezer items but I still found some great deals. I was able to get $30 in gift cards in return. I also request free samples all the time. I haven’t tried rebates yet but it is on my to do list. One new thing a week for me. This week was learning to shop at Target. :)

My target has a few groceries, wish they would have a freezer sections since they have such great deals! I did however get 2 boxes of cereal for $1.00 each yesterday, by using a manufacture and target coupon to save $2.00 off each box! I have used rebates for Toys R Us and Ace Hardware. I am going to sign up and try to get a few free things from Staples now! I sign up for freebies all the time. Thanks for your posts!

I love mail in rebates!! I did staples freebies (after rebates) this week as well as a moneymaker on Pediasure. Today I went to Target and tried to get some of the freebies but they were sold out. I did find some NYC lip gloss on clearance for $1.26 and I used a $1 off coupon to get it for only $.26!! Thanks for all of the help!

I went to Target today armed with many coupons and the store ad. This week they had buy 7 or 10 of certain items, get a $5 gift card. I saved $32, walked out with four $5 gift cards, received an additional 5% off with my RedCard, and a raincheck! I usually don’t go to Target because it’s so far from my house. It was worth the ride. I’m going to include Target in my weekly shopping path from now on.

I also received the same Vaseline sample you have pictured above. Freebies are awesome!

Been gone, so just getting around to catching up, but wish I had a Rite Aid around here. You really got some good deals at those stores. I’m very impressed with the amount of all your rebates…….good job. I will keep an eye out for rebates more often now. Thanks. :)

No. They have their own credit/debit card that you can use to save 5% on all purchases.

I have been doing rebates and free samples for yrs. I have learned that if I don’t send the rebate in as soon as I buy the item I tend to lose the receipt. I have learned to do the rebate on the day I get the item.

So I’ve never been a huge Target fan, but I saw some worthwhile coupons on their site! I’m like you, I don’t know what I’ve been missing. I’ll definitely be checking back with their coupons. Thanks for all of this helpful info!
